on an 83 305.....if the head gasket is the same as a 350...(it is according to NAPA) then what would be the difference in a head set for a 350?....i have a head set for a 350 but need to do the heads on the 305 and there are 2 different part numbers for a 305 to 350 but the head gaskets are the same...what gives?

If all the holes line up perfectly, then it shouldn't make a difference. Part numbers can be deceiving, since they are often assigned to a "range" of applications, but not always ALL applications.

general apperance is the same, probably different size valves or different shaped ports where it mates with the intake manifold.

after all a 305 is a 350 with smaller pistons

the part numbers on the heads are probly to identify what size motor it was on. im pretty sure all chevy small block heads will work with each other,

i think the valves are a different size
