Acting classes and coaches can provide you with invaluable help and can make a crucial difference. The problem is, any Tom, Dick, or Harry can set up a class and call themselves a teacher.

To be sure you take a class with something to offer, you may want to call the Theatre departments of some of the NYC universities and ask for recommendations.

If you can afford it, look into classes that are offered at places like the New School University or the NYC version of community college.

One of the best proving grounds for a potential actor is community theatre. Despite all the stereotypes there are a lot of good community theatres all over the place where you can get some experience and some helpful knowledge.

In any case, NY is probably the best place to be if you want to train to be a serious actor.

Good Luck!!

Pick up a copy of "Backstage," and look for classes.
