a pick is a way to block another player. say if someone is dribbling towards you and they are on your team then you can set a pick for them. this means you set your feet and stand still. if the dribbler intends on using you as a pick then they can drblle right besides you and you stop there trailing defender because you get in there way

A pick is when you stand in an opposing defender's way to help your teammate get closer to the basket to score. The pick causes the defender to either lose momentum or change direction, giving your teammate the advantage. A pick is also called a screen.
