He wasn't getting any playing time in Real Madrid plus they had a difference in opinions about the control of his image rights. He got a 2-year renewal offer from Real Madrid plus some offers from some mid-table EPL teams but he decided to go with MLS. BTW, he's only guaranteed $50 million of the 5-year package while the rest are contingent on ticket sales, merchandise, etc.

I agree with everyone else with the huge contract. Plus he's in Los Angeles spotlight where he and Posh can be in the noticed. And possibly land a Hollywood role, market their products, etc doesn't hurt for life after football. Even if he played in EPL middle team, he won't that opportunity. Riding the bench at Real Madrid isn't gonna cut it for him either.

and he gets an obscene amount of salary going by MLS standards.
lastly, he has potentially the whole of america to sell his merchandise and spin-offs (including wife victoria's showbiz career)
