In the old days, Hugh Hefner used to pick the playmate of the month. But now I think it's a committee who picks the playmate of the month.

The last I heard, Hef had the final word on this and choosing PMOY, but he will be age 81 April 10, so I suppose he has slowed much. His daughter Christie is a CEO of PEI and probably has an editorial committee. Recently, a Playmate was paid $20,000 for posing for the layout and had a chance at $100,000 in prizes for PMOY. Naturally, Hef gave the prize to his lovers, regardless of the readers voting.

Hef has ultimate creative control and looks over the book before its published each month, but he definitely has underlings (including his daughter who runs the day to day operations) that take care of the tedious vetting process on each girl.
