what's your Guitar Hero style? tips/tricks?

I play it like a regular guitar, holding it horizontally and picking with my thumb...up and down.

My friend holds it vertically and plays it like a bass only pick upwards with his fingers.

what works best for you? And any other tips/tricks you wanna share (ie - engaging star power without pressing the buttong)

I usually play with the guitar sitting like a real guitar... Its too hard to use alternate picking (up and down) on some songs because its real easy to pick an extra time and get rid of your points bonus so just use your thumb to tap down on the control... And for starpower, you only really need it if you are about to fail (or going for a highscore) and when you are about to fail, you dont really have time to move your hand and press the select button so just "rock" the guitar by raising the neck.
