deffintally NOT
The absolute smallest destrabution is going to be atleast a full gb, and thats going to take you forever and 3weeks to download. I wouldnt even reccomend downloading something like that on dial up no matter how good of a program it is. I personally dont see a hole lot going on for linux(and before you flame me I am quite the geek and have been using linux before most of you even had a computer). I am not saying if you want to mess arround with something because your bored to not install it, but it is not a good choice for a primary operating system even with todays distrabutions. I would suggest going to a friends house and downloading it on broad band or just break down and spend about $30 at a book store and buy a linux book+install media. The book will deffintally come in handy so its a good investment from the start. I personally like suse linux, but theres a million different ones and everyone is going to have there own opinion on which one is best.

Downloading Linux on dial up will take forever. There are many different versions, some are easier to setup and maintain than others. Back in the days of Win98, I dualbooted my pc between Win98 and Mandrake Linux. Prior to that one I tried Redhat (good but can be tough to setup) and Slackware (difficult to setup). I found the Mandrake distro to be fairly easy to setup and maintain for novices to Linux. It's been about 5 years since I've used Linux so I'm not up to speed on what's current these days. Anyway...your best bet is to read up some reviews and choose the distro that appeals to you the most. Like others have said...you can order the CDs. If you don't want to wait, some distros have a retail box you can purchase at the store that comes with CDs and a user manual. Sometimes Linux magazines will have a distro on CD that is included with the magazine.

You can actually order it and have it sent to your house on a CD. I mean most versions of Linux are free anyways. But if you want to try Linux, go ahead but be aware that it is a little different than Windows; if you ever have a problem with anything, you would have to research it in forums or call some kind of tech support for the Linux version you are using. If you are not computer savvy, then I suggest you stay with the Windows operation system.

Definitely not, no! It would take far too long. Try Ubuntu ( http://www.ubuntu.com/ ) It's a Linux based OS and can be sent to you on a CD for free. Here is a list of live CDs that contain Linux in one form or another http://www.frozentech.com/content/livecd.php I have not used any of these products and cannot say whether or not they are bug free or will harm your computer in any way. Use at your own risk.

Linux is really sexy.. But its too big a package for u to download and run it. Its better u borrow a CD from ur friend and install it.
Its better than windows. (Not user friendly, but the options are unbelievable).
