Always look at Consumer Reports etc. Scion/Toyota models were ranked MOST RELIABLE vehicles...and VW Gulf and Jetta were ranked LEAST RELIABLE (see link below)

Jetta is a VASTLY superior car to the scion line. there is no way a scion will still be in good shape in 8 years. The jetta is reliable, long lasting,and fun to drive. I have owned VW's with more then 300,000 miles that ran like the day they were new.

The Scion has not that long of a track record. otherwise the VW has a great one as long as daytona. I would recomend a Vdub over a Scion today. Now in ten years ask again

It is more of a personal preference that anything else nowadays...one thing you could do is check out Consumer Reports online, and once a member you can get reliability comparisons on most any line of vehicle.

My own preference is Scion, but that is more to do with looks...
