it is around 18 months old and looks like a fench lop eared rabbit. The previous owner gave him to her because she didnt want him anymore. Anyway she went to pick him up he kicked and it looks like his mail got caught on her jumper and has pulled it out as we found the nail and it was bleeding. Any advice as to what we should do.

dont worry about it, as long as only the claw was pulled it will be fine, will soon clot and recover. a common mistake is when people cut the claw to short and catch the blood line

if it is still bleeding, run to the PET STORE (not walmart) and get quick stop. it is used to stop the bleeding from trimming nails too short and also has chemicals in it to help heal the nail.
another thing to consider....what has been the rabbit's diet? DO NOT feed it lettuce because it is toxic to bunnies. too much of any fresh veggies is not good for a rabbit that has been fed mostly on a pellet diet.
for the future...if you cannot pick it up around the belly, pick it up by the scruff of the neck NOT the ears.

It should clot soon. If not call your Vet for further instructions. I have known some rabbits that have done this. We hold paper towel on it or put flour on it to stop the bleeding. You can also rinse it with warm water, dry it well and then put bacitracin on it. It wont hurt the rabbit if they eat it or lick it off. Keep the cage really clean as well. Good luck! Give him/her lots of TLC and extra carrots for being so brave!

A rabbit will attain sexual adulthood between the a while of three-8 months. seems to be somewhat too youthful for mating habit....possibly they have been only enjoying? Sexing a rabbit is incredibly confusing in case you do no longer know what your finding for. that is no longer sparkling shrink like the "organs" of maximum mammals. exceedingly while they are youthful. What i'm saying is that one in each of them would be a boy bunny.

the nail will be fine, just keep an eye on it to check it satys clean and doesn't get infected.
when going to pick the rabbit up, try going towards it slowly and from as low an angle as possible so as not to panic the rabbit, then it may not happen again.

Best advice I can give is a CALL to the vet just call the local vet and he/she can tell you what to do. But if you feel that its not neccasary, wrap the foot in a towel to stop the blood till it clots up he should be fine for he shant need his claw any longer.

My bunny's nail got pulled out when i was trimming her nails and she jerked her foot, it bled a lot, but the vet said it shouldn't be a problem. We bandaged her foot up, which didn;t last very long, and eventually it grew back.

I ALWAYS use flour. Plain old cooking flour. take a hand full of it and gently squeeze his nail (to pack flour on). You can also buy gel and powder products that will stop the bleeding.

I think that I would take it to the vet. In the meantime, dip his toe in quik stop or flour to help it clot.
