Well . . . first you might want to find out if this cat has a owner . Well once you have done that you can try :
1. The Drop Trap
The drop trap falls down over a cat, so they don't have to enter a narrow, confined space then move further in. In our experience, it's been very effective. The inventor of the drop trap featured on our site (click here for "How to Build & Use Your Own Drop Trap") uses it to catch all the cats in a colony, not just the difficult ones. Basic woodworking skills are needed to construct.
2. The Camoflauge Trap
(see photo)
The concept is simple - disguise the trap so that it blends in with its surroundings. This can be done by draping burlap over the sides of the trap (though not the rear - the cat needs to see all the way through) and on the trap floor. Then cover the burlap with leaves, branches - anything that will add to the camoflauge. Along these same lines, sometimes even simpler things work, like putting the trap inside a cardboard box (with the rear door not covered), or leaning a large board against a wall and putting the trap behind it so it's hidden. Even draping a sheet over the sides might do the trick.
3. Training the Cat
Cats can be trained to go into traps as follows: With a stick or wire, secure the front door in an open position. Then place the trap in the cat's territory, preferably near the normal feeding spot.
Begin by placing the cat's daily meal on a small plate a few inches in front of the front entrance to the trap. Once you see the cat is eating from this location, then the next meal, move the plate a couple of inches just inside the front of the trap. When the cat is eating from there, then move the food again, this time a few inches further into the trap. Continue this process of gradually moving the food inwards until the cat is going far enough in that you can set the trigger and the cat will step on the plate.
This process can take a couple of weeks or more. Unless the location where the training is taking place is extremely secure, the rear door of the trap should be removed so that no one can come along in your absence and catch a cat. Loosely tape a clear piece of plastic or even a piece of paper to the rear of the trap instead. It's a good idea, too, to chain and lock the trap onto an immovable object, like a pipe or fence. If possible, hide the trap in a way where it won't be easily seen by others by placing it behind something or camoflauging it in some way. Obviously this method won't work in a public area if the threat of theft or vandalism is too high.

You have a good plan.
What you need is a squirrel trap cage.
You can find those at Canadian Tire for sure , maybe a do it yourself store like Home Depot or Home Hardware.
Just buy the cage and read the instructions on how to set the trap.
The cat will walk in to eat and the trap door will shut.
I found it easier to follow the photo instructions than to follow the text because it made it seam so complicated for just 3 easy steps.
SET 1 THE 2 CAGE 3 and it's simple as that (123)
And don't forget , since it's a big smart animal , you might want to just put the food in what ever part of the cage your imagination desires. Things don't always have to be picture perfect.
Just make the job easier on yourself and get that CAT IN THE CAGE. lol good luck.
Hey one more thing Bint , if the cage seams too small for the Kitty your trying to catch , ask them if they have anything bigger ,
just tell them that your uncles shop has Raccoons in it lol.

You could try putting her food under a large box, that's propped on a stick. You have a long piece of string tied to the stick, and when the cat is under the box, pull the stick out and let the box fall. Remember, if this cat is feral, it will go ballistic, so dont try and grab it with bare hands. Have someone to help you get the cat into a proper cat box. You'll need to be very patient and calm to win it over, but feral cats can be tamed.

I have the same problem. You can order a "Have Heart trap" that you just put some food in & if you catch the wrong cat, just open the trap. It doesn't harm or hurt the cat at all.

Get the cat to trust you. Sit outside with the food next to you, let the cat come to the food, but don't grab the cat for a couple of days. When the cat is comfortable with you, start slowly petting the cat. Then when the cat is comfortable with you touching the cat, attempt a lift to your lap. It may take several days to get to this point, but the cat needs to know that you won't hurt it and you are trustworthy.

If this is a stray cat it may not take kindly to being caught and may not be abel to be domesticated. If it is not a stray then it is someones's pet and you will be stealing their pet. it would be very stressfull on any animal to be trapped in a cage like that. You should instead see if you can gain her trust by offering her food and getting her to come to you, it will take patience and may not work at all so be prepared.

use a humane animal trap the kind that when the animal walks in they set off a pressure sensitive trigger witch then swings a door shut and bam you have your cat... it wont be harmed at all.
