In my back yard I have the plastic underground sprinkler pipes and one of the sprinkler heads broke off in the T connector. So I need to replace the T connector BUT I can't seem to remove it. Is there some type of special glue that is holding it in place?

yes, they are usually done with pretty much the same thing as pvc cement. Some, use compression fittings. if there are nuts on the ends, it is probably compression fittings. easiest thing to do is cut the pipe close as possible to the fitting, then just install a new one. hopefully, there is enough slack in the pipes to allow you to do this.
