You left a lot of variables out. Are you driving or flying? Staying onsite or offsite? Which level of resort? Are you interested in the Dining Plan? How many days/nights are you planning on staying? Where are you planning on going?

My family (2 adults/2 kids..13&7) is leaving in 26 days, and we are staying 8 nights. Our total so far is $4000. We are staying in a value resort, flying out of Chicago, we have the dining plan, and other than catching a Braves spring training game, we plan to be at only one park each day (no park hopping or water parks and more plan).

Traveling from where? Gas here is about $2.21, so figure that one out. Hotels can be from $25 a night to really high. Howard Johnsons are kid friendly and free breakfast(that is what you need to look for to save $$$) and the Ramada on International Drive is great. It is cheaper ($60) than most hotels, has I think 2 pools, a resturaunt, and a convience store and bar (24 hours). There is also the LARGEST MC D"s w gourmet healthy food in a very short walking distance. Also in walking distance is w play area called Midway with 3 story go carts, ferris wheel, swing (those that go really high), and arcade. There is a TON of restuarunts and shops all in walking distance. Wet and Wild is around the corner(water park) and Universal and City Walk are close by (2miles?). Depends on what you are planing to do...Universal is about $60 adult ticket, Midway is free to enter but cost to ride and play (so about $20 a kid-also depends on age), Wet N wild (not open yet- I think- is about $30), dinners will cost about $10-15 a person, unless you go to Mc Ds. Here are some links:
I find the best hotels at www.AAA.com, www.onlinehotels.com, and www.travelocity.com
Here is Universal

Here is Midway

Here are orlando vacation guides:

If you are not going for a while, please go to AAA if you have them and ask for a tour guide book...you can get them online and at the stores.

Good luck. Usually when me and my fiance go to Orlando, it costs around $80 for hotel (2 nights), $70 dinners, $200 theme park, and $50 each to spend on "crap"

You did not give information on how old they are, when you are going (this depends a lot on prices!!!!!!!!!!!), what you want to do, ect. So this is the best answer I can give.

You did leave a lot of the variables out, but if Disney is your destination and you are waffling between staying in the park at one of their resorts or outside the park, choose Disney. Why? Lots of reasons; logistically you are already IN THE PARK. If it is a busy day, half of your time may be spent in traffic and lines getting in. The bargain basement rates out on Maingate and Rt 192 don't seem much of a bargain when you have to get back and forth, in and out. We've stayed at Port Orleans, the old Dixie Landings and the Polynesian. Never regretted it a bit. We are possibly heading down to Orlando this weekend if I can work out the logistics, but it will be a Sea World adventure this time and staying on I-Drive.

It depends. If you go to www.disneyworld.com, you can price out a package to see what the cost will be, from the tickets to the room, and airfare. Personally, I just do the passes and room, then get my own air separately.

You can go to Disney and spend under $3000 for everything, or you can spend $10,000. It all depends on what you are looking for. What my family and I always do is plan the trip as far in advance as possible. Then we can make payments on the trip, so that the trip and passes are all paid for before we leave. When you give yourself 9-12 months to plan, you can make sure to save up enough money to do what you want.

There are many places that advertise deals going to Orlando, with Disney thrown in. Just remember, buyer beware!! If anyone ever asks me I always tell them, STAY ON PROPERTY. If you stay on property, you are able to use the transportation and perks that are for Disney guests. If you are not a resort guest, not only do you have to use your hotels' shuttle service, which may cost extra in some cases and is not very convienient, you may have problems going into the park depending on the crowds. Resort guests are admitted no matter what. Those that are not resort guests are subject to the crowds. Also, resort guests are treated to extra magic hours, where you can either enter some of the parks early or stay late on certain days.

They have a couple of different kinds of resorts. First, they have the value resorts. These are the least expensive of their resorts, but they are fun to stay at. I have stayed at the All-Star Movies resort a couple of times and enjoyed it. The drawback for these is that because they are the value resorts, there are tons of families. The resort has a tendency to be on the loud side, but not unbearable. The next step up is the moderate resorts. We have stayed at the Caribbean Beach resort and loved it. I would recommend it to anyone. Not only is there a food court, but a sit down restaurant as well. The next step is the Deluxe resorts. We have stayed at the Contemporary and Polynessian, and again loved it. Personally, my favorite of all is the Polynessian, but it is also the second most expensive of all of them!! You can taylor your vacation to your budget and taste.

Make sure that you get the Park hopper option on your tickets. I understand that it is a little more expensive, but in the long run it is better. If you are at the Magic Kingdom and decide it is too crowded, you can shift gears and go to Epcot center or MGM instead. This option lets you come and go as you please, instead of being stuck with one park on one day.

There are two sources of info that I have always used when booking my trips. The Birnbaum's guide to Disney is the first. There are a ton of guide books out there, and this one has been the best for us. Also, www.disneyworld.com is a must. As I said, you can go in and get a quote for your vacation, and see what you are looking at in terms of price. The Disney folks make things really easy, so I have always booked my trips myself. I just can't see paying a travel agent to do it.

On another note, I remember the first trip that I ever took my daughter to Disney. Seeing the look on her face when she walked into the Magic Kingdom the first time, with Mickey and Minnie walking around, Cinderella's castle at the end of Main Street, was a feeling I will remember for the rest of my life. I have never regretted any amount that i have spent at Disney. No matter which resort you stay at or what you do, they treat you like royalty, and the kids have memories that last a lifetime.

It depends on what you want to do - you can spend almost $1000 on Disney tickets alone. When we go 2 kids and 2 adults we spend about $250 a day. And we buy hats, shirts, etc at the Disney store ahead and give them to them down their. WAY CHEAPER than buying things in the park. Good luck!

Call a timeshare program and find out if you can stay there. Just tell them that you are thinking of buying a timeshare and want to stay there. They will usually only charge you the tax for the room the entire time you are there. You are under no obligation to purchase but you will be obligated to a tour. That is a really cheap way of going to disney. You can be assured that you will spend around 2000.00 for it all. Don't feel pressure to stay on site. There are some really nice hotels that are cheaper. Good luck!
