Stick with 4 high. Try 4 low in a parking lot some day . It'll be apparent that the low range of gears are to be used only in mud, pulling heavy loads out of snow, sand, or up steep one lane or off road hills.

are you sure it doesn't say AWD. Awd will run in a 2wd mode until slippage is detected then it will automatically switch to 4wd until traction is gained then it goes back to 2wd mode. This uses the least amount of gas.

4H - this is 4wd high. usually you can shift into this while driving. it locks you into 4wd, use in snow or mud so that you don't have to wait to slip before 4wd kicks in.

4L - this is 4wd low. must be stopped to shift into this. for when you are stuck or in really deep snow or mud. uses the most gas because it puts in line a low gear ratio to put more torque to the tires. because of the gearing max speed in 4L will probably be about 30mph (50kph)

in summery

AWD - everyday use, light rain/snow

4H - when running down muddy roads, 1 inch plus snow on the ground and plows are not keeping up with the snow

4L - when you are stuck in the mud/deep snow or a snow bank

4WD will likely give you the best gas mileage, depending on your vehicle and driving habits. 4L (low) and 4H (high) will lock your gearshaft in a low or high position. Low should only be used while towing or extreme offroad situations. 4H should be used during wet/icy road driving. 4WD may mean different things depending on your vehicle. With a third 4WD option, often, a computer in your car will determine whether you should be in 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive, or allows the transmission to shift into a higher highway gear.

Normally, you drive in 4H. If you need to tow something - use 4L. And finally, when it's slippery - use 4WD. The best gas mileage is in 4H, and if you use 4WD on dry pavement, you eventually damage the drivetrain.

the only thing that will do is help you when you need it in adverse conditions. the 4H is for like going over something high. the 4L is for your traction like in snow or mud. if you engage this while you are driving fast, you will mess your truck up. my friend has push button 4WD on his suburban and his son pushed it while he was in the store. he got to driving regular speeds and on the freeway before he spotted it. his transmission went out a day later and they told him that it was the cause. the cost: $2,000.

4L = 4wheel drive low
4H = 4wheel drive high
4WD of course is just 4 wheel drive.
You should NOT have your vehicle set to 4 wheel drive, any part thereof, when driving on paved roads. It WILL increase your gas consumption, but moreover renders the vehicle unsafe for going around curves.
4 wheel drive options are only in conditions when you're off road or perhaps driving through snow.
Also, you should never operate your vehicle in 4 wheel drive faster than 50 mph, and it is better to stay slower than 35 mph.
