Pay NO attention to the nay sayers for they want the wealthy few to retain rule & control or things to remain the same! If you want a more progressive society you have to include more citizens! This structure is extremely exclusive under Fascist Capitalism! You would be reversing the roles making government & business under public LCM rule & control.

Direct democracy is practiced in Switzerland. The Swiss system has its strengths and weaknesses. The main problem with direct democracy is populism. People will tend to vote through ill-conceived policies just because they sound sexy, even if they are not sensible from a cost/benefit viewpoint. Also, there are a lot of issues that are poorly understood by the general population, and ordinary people will tend to make unprofessional, uninformed choices. I'd say it's better to let the experts make certain choices.

a commonplace position for commonplace voters in the operating of authorities isn't practicable. How would maximum persons discover the time to learn what they want to attraction to close to handle subject matters and make judgements in the type of quick time body? I do trust besides the undeniable fact that that structures want to be put in position to placed the brakes on authorities officials who bypass off procedure the persons's will. A equipment of bear in mind elections, citizen vetoes and different referenda which may be applied rapidly would do lots to enhance the potential of the persons over authorities, and over large corporations, who imagine they personal the authorities. also, judges want to be appointed or voted in for short words. no more beneficial judges for existence. Judges have a tendency to go back from an similar type of persons as company kinds, and they do no longer have the interests of the undemanding people at heart.

Absolutely not. Any nation that has tried this has collapsed. Human nature is envious and once the masses realize they need only vote to take wealth away from those who have built successful businesses, the nation quickly spirals down into economic collapse.
That is why our wise Founding Fathers made this a representational Republic. They tried to protect us against the folly of a direct Democracy.

No, I still think a representative democracy works better. I suspect we should perhaps have *more* representatives, since the original set-up was planned for far fewer states. And I'd love to see the electoral college go away. But overall, representative works better than the alternative.

You raise this question at least once a week. The answer is still a resounding no. The system you propose would lead to anarchy. Capitalism builds a countries wealth, in the communistic society you are proposing the government and economy would implode.

what is Direct democracy .. I always thought if their was no place to draw money from then we would have no economy .. and if some one was smart enough to figure out how to become wealthy under your way of thinking, he would not be allowed to continue on to allow others to accomplish the same as he .. sounds a little bit like Communism...

Switzerland is a small country. It is a republic. Democracy can be easier in a small group than a larger one. We need to make sure our democratic republic works. The size of our country is why we need to be a republic. Not everyone can go to Washington to express their opinions and vote.

How, pray tell would that be feasible?
Even our representative democracy cannot keep up with all the necessary descision-making required to make government function properly, hence all the various federal agencies (EPA, OSHA, FEMA, Etc..)
You're foolish to assume that direct democracy would result in anything less than catestrophic gridlock.

Without a doubt it would...the problem lay in actuallizing said dream. You think Congress takes it's sweet time making decisions?...try getting answers from 125 million voters in a day, every day, for 20 weeks straight.

It would be chaotic. Public opinion changes to often & too fast to have direct democracy work. Our current system has served us well for more than 200 years. "If it aint broke don't fix it".
