Drag suits are extra swim suits that you put over your own suit to create more drag in the water. They're serve the same purpose as those rings that batters on deck will put on their bats before getting up to bat in baseball. They make you go slower and therefore train yourself into going slower and then when you take it off to race you'll go faster.
Drag suits can vary in length. My own drag suit goes from my hip bones to just above my upper thighs while some people may have drag suits that resemble boy's casual swimming suits that are really bulky and have a lot of drag.
For some general pictures of drag suits check out the first page of image results from Google (Yahoo wasn't coming up with any proper results): http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&gbv=2&q=drag+suits&btnG=Search

A drag suit is an extra swim suit worn to increase drag (resistance) through the water. The extra resistance makes the workout harder and so would allow you to develop more and therfore swim quicker when not wearing the drag suit. It would compare to running with a small parachute behind you.
I'm not sure if there's been any scientific testing of the increased drag, or if it's just one of those things that seems to make sense so it must be true.
For men, a drag suit will range from a really loose extra speedo to a surfer-style baggie trunks to a loose female's swim suit. I would imagine that women would use the same.
Always remember, a drag suit is meant to be loose, and therefore is used in addition to your primary swim suit.

Not a speedo. Board shorts, normal swimming suits. I would swim in my board shorts to make me faster. I am a guy though. I guess as a girl you could put a guys swimsuit bottoms on over your suit too.

It is an extra swimsuit you wear over your normal one to create "drag" (or extra weight and friction with the water) to make you swim harder, so that when you take that extra suit off in competition, your time is faster.

usually drag suits are suits that are 1-2 sizes bigger than your normal size. really good drag suits are ones that are so worn and flabby (effects of chlorine) that you have to the fabric in knots just to keep the suit together!
