I think what you are trying to say is that "some say the Vikings wore helmets to scare the enemy ..."

What you are probably refering to are the horned helmets that popular culture has associated with the viking Norsemen. You are correct - there is no evidence that the Norse ever wore them. Norsemen in both artwork from the time period, and burials wore nasal helm - a slightly conical helmet with a nose guard.

Horned helms appear to have been used as cermonial items by the Saxons (both continental and Anglo-Saxon), but not the Norse. There was a gorgeous one unearthed at Sutton Hoo.

The Vikings did actually have the horned helmets, but they tended to be used for ceremonial reasons. Most of the helmets that they used were of conical design. Also, we can thank the Vikings for a lot of our current democratic traditions. The Vikings passed these along when they settled in various parts of the British Islands and they were later taken into British common law which greatly affected the developement our own American Democracy.

there is some saga evidence to suggest that vikings wore helmets with animal symbols of a boar on them, but as an earlier person noted, the horned helmet is not a viking age style. for all you need to know about vikings go here;

a lot of cultures wore things to scare the enemy. they wanted to look as ferocious as possible. if your enemy is terrified of you that makes it much easier.
whether it was some type of make up or clothing or helmet it paid to look scary.
