My computer was running good until a few nights ago it just slowed down out of no where. I refomated the hard drive on it and now its doing the same exact thing slowing down not following commands until a few minutes later. I went and checked the CPU usage and it is sitting on 100% usage and will not slow down and is not running any programs while it does this. What does that sound like the problem is and what can I do to resolve it. Oh yeah if anyone is wondering the info on the computer it is a HP and has a 30 GB hardrive and is running windows XP. I would appreciate any and all suggestions that will help me resolve this problem.
Thanks Steve Stifler.

On top of what the first guy said, also make sure you open your computer and use compressed air or a vacuum to take out all the dust inside your computer. Dust inside the case can cause overheating.

Also make sure that you get a good anti-virus and anti-spyware program. I personally recommend AVG Anti-Virus and these three anti-spyware programs: AVG Anti-Spyware, Ad-Aware SE Personal, and Spybot: Search & Destroy. You can download the products at:

AVG Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware:

Ad-Aware SE Personal:

Spybot: Search & Destroy:

I know 3 anti-spyware programs sound like too many, but some of those programs will catch something that the others don't. Make sure you update them daily and run scans at least every 2 weeks to a month.

Check *memory* (in your Task manager): is it blasted out of the water? Did you install new software that runs from every boot? (Is a new virus running from every boot?) You might consider going to your Programs--> System Tools--> System Restore and going back to system status of a few nights ago back when the system was running okay...

It is possible one of your ram modules died or became unseated also like the above answer said it could be an over heating problem in that case you will need to reseat your CPU heat sink.
