For the first 2/3's of my project I want to use a white background.
there is a link at the beginning and at the end of the movie that takes the viewer to the final 1/3. So far the entire thing is one long Scene I wanted to use a black background for this final 1/3. every time I try to change the bg to black it affects the entire movie. Someone please help me, this project is due wednesday.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I have struggled with flash that way, too. I hate it when they don't let you change the background in different parts of the movie. What I have done ever since is make another layer, and put it on the bottom, and make a rectangle the size of the stage in the different colour you want as the background.

You can either programmatically change the background of the movie, which is a little harder for beginners, or you can just set a solid block of color at the bottom-most layer and animate that as needed. Just make a white rectangle that covers the entire canvas, convert it to a symbol, and put it on the bottom-most layer (or create a new layer at the bottom). When it's time to change the color, just add a color tween to the symbol and change it.

create a layer, drag and drop it to the bottom of your layers, choose which frame you want it to start changing on right-click and convert that frame to a key frame, then change your background. Key thing is make sure that layer is on the absolute bottom
