In those episodes where Captain Kirk encountered some nasty, alien fugus, or mind ray, or anything that made him act strangely, Spock or McCoy would bring up the possiblity of ordering a full physical/psychological evaluation after which, if Kirk was found to be unfit for command he would be relieved of it. How do you think G.W. Bush would do on a psycological evaluation for, say, the CIA, FBI, or special forces? Is there a standard psych eval for the president?

Interesting question.

I would think anyone who could mindlessly chant 'stay the course' for years, despite the fact that it's not working, would be unable to pass any such test.

Add to that the fact that when he finally had to admit that a change in course was necessary, the best trick he could come up with was sacrificing more pawns to the cause... like a piss-poor chess player who can't figure out how the rest of the pieces move...

Those two ridiculously stubborn character flaws alone lead me to believe his psychological assessment score would be even lower than his current approval ratings.

It's called the impeachment process, or voluntarily the President can transfer power temporarily.

They also wouldn't declare war/genocide on the fungus without making an attempt to understand it first.

The President has way too much power. This would never happen.

Bush isn't really in charge. Cheney is. Neither one is certifiable. Bush is mostly stupid and lazy. Cheney is evil.

Star Trek is TV, Captina Kirk is a fictional character.

In the US we have a constitution, not a script. The constitution doesn't have any such provisions.
