On the surface it sounds like a good idea, and potentially I'd want to use it if I were faced with a slow journey to being a vegetable.

The problem is that it allows alot of room for slip ups, uncaring children, etc to take advantage of it. By this I mean, a family member may be able to convince the Doctor to kill the parent just so they don't have to pay the health costs, or a person could have it choosen for them when they might have recovered or were having a bad day. Potentially it could come to the point where everyone over a given age was automatically "let go".

If these concerns could be addressed, I'd be for it.

Hey aadam -
I see that you are very new to Y!A . . . joining just yesterday. . .
It is fairly apparent that English is not your primary language?
Therefore - it seems that 'euthanasia' is the word you seek - when asking a question about what you call
"death with dignity". . .
I believe that doctors do not 'kill' patients - but afford/assist them (patients) out of this physical life, in ways that non-medical people are not able to offer. I support euthanasia - death should always be available - as an individuals' choice. . .

That is a very hard question and who knows what is right or wrong in each individual case. Since we have been given freedom of choice and must live the consequences of our actions maybe this can only be decided by each individual separately as to what they truly believe for themselves. If people truly believe they are doing the right thing than maybe the consequences of their choice is right for them. Who are we to say what is write or wrong for another in this respect? I do see both sides of this problem though, but remember killing has been found to be acceptable in times of war and in self defense.

The reason for it is obvious. Anyone who has had a relative die with tubes on machines for months and months knows what bullsh!t it all is.

The reason against is abuse. But it is hard for me to imagine how it would be abused with basic procedures in place, such as written instructions detailing all possible scenarios by those facing medical situations.

To me it seems like the only sane way for a society to conduct itself.

I think that you should read a true story titled "A Crime of Compassion" by Barbara Huttman. I read it for my current English class and it opened my eyes to this matter. It is a very discrete and detailed story that I think would give you some more insight.

Hope this helps!

Doctors take a oath. A person responsible for saving a life...should not be the same one ending it. If they truelly want to die...they can research and do it themselves!!! As for me my religion says it's a sin to commit sucide, so I would'nt do it!!! i would pray for death!!!

Suicide and euthanasia are both wrong.
