It was trying to better it's image. Wal-Mart tried porducing clothing and products that the next class up in society would buy. This however did not work and they lost a lot of money. Now they have changed their products back to their normal kind. To Wal-Mart this may seem to them as trying to better their image, to me it looks very greedy and low down.

Some Walmart customers soon will be able to sample a new discount item: Walmart's own brand of wine. The world's largest retail chain is teaming up with E&J Gallo Winery of Modesto, California, to produce the spirits at an affordable price, in the $2-5 range. While wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to throw a bottle of Walmart brand wine into their shopping carts, there is a market for cheap wine, said Kathy Micken, professor of marketing at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I. She said: "The right name is important."
So, here we go: The top 12 suggested names for Walmart Wine:
12. Chateau Traileur Parc
11. White Trashfindel
10. Big Red Gulp
9. Grape Expectations
8. Domaine Wal-Mart "Merde du Pays" [Kruse, Keith M] (Translated "**** of the Land")
7. NASCARbernet
6. Chef Boyardeaux
5. Peanut Noir
4. Chateau des Moines
3. I Can't Believe It's Not Vinegar!
2. World Championship Riesling
And the number 1 name for Wal-Mart Wine ..
1. Nasti Spumante

It appears to be. But it's only an image. Individual stores, employees, etc., show a different image. A Wal-Mart in an affluent neighborhood is cleaner, better stocked, and with some exclusive items not found in every store. And it's not for rednecks only.

Oh hell no.....Wal-Mart is starting to really suck. Well the Wal-Mart here anyway. I swear everytime I go in there they have less and less things. You can't hardly get anything there anymore. Wal-Mart is where I went to get EVERYTHING I needed and they have it to where I can't do that no more......I am pretty disappointed in Wal-mart.

I think that they are doing a better job of it.
The super walmarts are an excellent draw.
Great prices on most of the food is enough of a draw to have me come in and LOOK at the other stuff that they offer.
The abolition of the layaway was probably not the best move....but all and all they are doing away from the images of yesteryear
