We have been fighting the War on Poverty for decades with literally trillions of dollars spent, and no measurable progress being made. If anything, there are more poor people than ever.

When will we admit it was all a foolish mistake and cut-and-run from this disaster?

This is a battle we cannot hope to win

You simply cannot impose prosperity on people who won't stand up for it themselves.

Excellent question, the problem is your brand of satire will be lost on many.

When it suits the left they will throw as much money as they can get from our wallets, when it is politially inconvenient they will cut and run and leave a country defenseless to be torn apart.

The War on Poverty is War on Nature. Simply put, everyone in the world cannot be rich at the same time. Politicans try to override this natural law with the false balance of wealth redistribution and socialism, whereby everyone is entitled to live on the effort and sweat of someone else. But this doesn't create equal opportunity success. It merely creates equal opportunity misery, in which the haves are punished for producing and the have nots are rewarded for the circumstances of their unfavorable life conditions, rather than being motiviated to better themselves.

The biggest problem is the big US Corporations doling out all our jobs overseas and letting illegals in to work in positions that Americans could work, but are not hired.

These companies who hire illegals cannot count the poor as they are not citizens, and Americans would not be in that situation if said companies would hire them or stop outsourcing because they don't want to pay the American wage.

I've applied for over 950 positions in my category and never even get an interview...and go back to that place I've inquired with and see/hear a person who can hardly crack the English language. So the Affirmative Action is working only on behalf of new arrivals and illegals.

Show me the link to the "trillions" of dollars we've spent, and over how much time. The War on Drugs costs us far more than the war on poverty. The War in Iraq, of course, has cost us trillions in barely four years. And in the war on poverty, unlike those two, nobody is dying... well, except some people who can't get medical care, despite living in the richest country in the world, because of their poverty.

I'm unwilling to pull out of this one.

no we cant or some one else would just take over. And you may be thinking well thats not our problem. But when they start bombing us, it will be. Right now we need to stay and make sure the rebelin stays down for now. And the iraqys need to stand up with that goverment we helped them build and do it them selves. But for right now we need to be in there. I say we take them out little at a time, and let them take charge little at a time! But right now we need a new president to do that!

The already enormous gap between rich and poor in America has become a Grand Canyon. In every part of their lives, U.S. workers are having a harder time making ends meet--while the fantastic wealth of a tiny few grows even more obscene.

I agree, but the War on Poverty will continue because politicians need the votes of the poor in return for handouts. As long as these people continue to be dependent on the government for help, they will always be poor.

If you would have "pulled out" maybe there would not have been a reason for a war on poverty.

We will back down but first we must pass a non-binding resolution stating, "We were for it before we were against it", then we can cut & run without backlash. In fact, this sounds like the "norm".
