They only make a big deal about it when it is someone they don't like running.

He deserves the right to run for office. It's his life, let him do what he wants. Who knows, with Al Franken in Congress we may get term limits passed after all. I don't believe Al will sell out to special interest
groups like so many reps do.

You forgot the greatest of them all. The honorable, Jessi (The Body) Ventura. Governor of the Great State of Minnesota. I personally think that he could wup the gobernater in a cage match. In answer to your question, there is no reason these people should not run for office, they meet the criteria. They are citizens. They have minds, and most of them use them quite well.

Yep, Millie's right on that one. For what it's worth, Al Franken is *incredibly* intelligent about politics, and I hope he wins in Minnesota. Heck, unlike Eastwood, Schwarzenegger, and Reagan, Franken became a celebrity largely *through* political commentary--once he left SNL behind, anyway.

Al Franken should be in therapy somewhere, for his good and the good of the world. I try hard not to judge 'celebrities' by how they compare to that human skidmark. He should not be running for anything. He should be running from the people trying to put him away permanently.

It has nothing to do with Franken's "celeb" status (LMAO) but rather the fact that he is completely insane and offensive to just about any rational human being. Try reading one of his books... you'll understand.

As for the rest of 'em... I think the main thought is simply that we should stick to what we know and people don't give celebs any credit for actually having brains. There are plenty of celebrities that have done a very good job in office, just as there are plenty of other folks who have done a good job. It doesn't matter what your past job was, only what your beliefs, education, and abilities are.

Everyone has the right to run for office. But celebrities should be limited to state office where only the people insane enough to vote for a name or a face from a movie marquee will have to deal with their mediocre government.

Millie's got it right.

I hope Franken clobbers that empty suit Coleman.

He has the right to run. Anyone who votes for him should be confined to a psychiatric hospital for life.
