What is the most fuel efficient non hybrid car available in the US?

I'd have to go with the old Geo Metro.. 57 MPG... and they actually got it I had one once.. Suzuki 3 cyclinder engine...

The most efficient are diesels.

For gas it would be a 3-cylindar car, such as the geo metro which gets 45 miles to the gallon.

Toyota Yaris? VW Golf TDI? Those may not be THE most efficient but they're definitely at the top of the list.
