Close to the beach, but doesnt have to be, not party central. i want to relax and have some activities near by.

I've been vacationing in S FL for about 15 years, and I can tell you that anywhere around Miami Beach is pretty crazy. Party Central.
I would suggest Ft Lauderdale. My girlfriend and I spent time in FtL the last couple years. It has SOME partying, but it's not anything crazy. You can find some better deals on accomodations there vs. MB as well. You might find this link useful:

We also stayed in the Keys 3 years ago, but beaches are almost non-existent in the Keys, and so that's why we started going to FtL instead. Plus the accomodations in the Keys are pretty pricey.

There are a few great hotels in Sunny Isles Beach (AKA North Miami Beach). You can stay at the Trump hotel or Aqcualina. Both of them are located right on the Beach. The area is beautiful, but not a party central like South Beach....

if its miami you want then, definitely the trump hotel. the trump hotel is located in sunny isles and is further down then miami beach. the water is clearer and the people are more relaxed and quite.

The Keys would be better... If you're interested you may check-out www.whitesandsinn.com (it's a nice quaint little hotel on the beach... Halfway to Key West)!!! This is where I always stay...
