Ok so he can still kick in top class football but not for much longer and ok he has all the money he'll ever want. But I reckon their decision to move there has little to do with money and more with quality of life. They obviously feel it's a better place to live and raise their kids and I think this is a great opportunity for them. Even if it turns pants, they can always come back but if he hangs around too much longer here, he might never be offered the same opportunity again. Plus I think their celebrity status is more the norm in the US so they might just be able to get on with their lives a bit more. AND of course Vic is well into fashion and fame so it's right up here street and I think she'll find a niche more there than here where she's not being shot down constantly. Not that I am a huge Beckham fan - just thinking in their position, given the chance, I'd do exactly the same and move there! Good luck to them, they've worked for it.

Why the hell won't you people give US soccer a chance, how is it ever going to get better, if every star that goes to the US is "for the money" or "no longer on top of their game". Come on guys, US does has a good economy and if anything, getting soccer more popular in US won't hurt soccer.
Who knows what Beckham is thinking about going to LA. The guy has a soccer academy there, if he was looking to futhur his soccer career after his playing days, US make sense. He could go down as the father of US soccer, if he manages to have a succesful career here. He might be more ambitious than you guys think. He is not digging a grave guys, he is looking to the future, he is got something Manchester nor Madrid can give him. And no more bullshit about this is the only offer he has, even if Beckham is playing on one feet, there will still be many clubs who would give him offers, maybe not as much but LA Galaxy was not his only choice. Get over it, LA won his heart fair and square

Well England did not appreciate him so what would you do with all the negative press he was getting over the world cup, etc.
He still has a lot to offer but apparently the English press did not think so, perhaps they must stop saying England are favourites and building them up as the champions and maybe England can win again.

he only chose to go to US becuase his wife wanted to live in hollywood (shes preppy), and because there was no other offer. he was cut from englands national team, and he needed to find a new club team quick after real madrid had cut him off too. there werent too many offers, except for mls. he chose to go to los angeles, mainly because of the high payment in the sports market, and because of his wife. now that beckham is coming, major league soccer is trying to draw some other legendary players, such as zidane (but says he will not come out of retirement).

Yes. He can still raise football's profile in the US. A celebrity wife will not do any harm for a nation fixated with famous people.
Plus Becks have a few more years of good football ahead of him. Technically, he is better than most of the MLS current players.

Yes. Fair play to the chap, it's something new.
He gets abuse for doing things, he gets abuse for not doing things. The guy can't win. So it's him sticking 2 fingers up at the system and earning lots of $$ in the process. Not to mention the great lifestyle.

When it comes to money it's never enough - US$50 million is a pretty convincing reason to semi-retire.

I don't think this is what he thought but I still believe what made him leave Madrid is the coach who didn't like him then there is no other top team out there that wanted him that's why he just decided to go where no one can see him.
Thanx!

It was a great move. I can't wait to see him play! It's one of the few times that football has ever gotten coverage here. Hopefully it helps the sport.
