I think he was a governor first but borned a King. This is a trivia question running around in the office for quite some time. Because like the 1st answer is right, you have to be borned in the USA. But not sure when that became a law?

Gerald Ford.
He was born Leslie King Jr and was never elected to the presidency, succeeding Nixon upon his resignation after having been appointed to replace Spiro Agnew as VP.

adams was born in massachusetts

It was noted in the articles of the constitution that US presidents must be natural born citizens or be citizens at the time of the ratifying of the constitution....

The rule has always been there.

Nobody is born a king, and no U.S. president was born a prince.
