Because going to India, you're flying East. You're flying into the time zone, so rather than "losing" time, you're gaining time. You shouldn't have any jet lag going that direction. As a matter of fact, you ought to be well rested compared to people who have already been there in that time zone compared to how they feel at the moment according to their regular sleeping and waking schedule.

Flying the other direction, you ARE "losing" time, rather than gaining it. So of course, you must sleep that many more hours in order to catch up with the rest of the people in the US already adjusted to the time zone of where you landed.

The papadum at the airport wakes u up. En route to home the tailpipe smoke is a second dose of wake up call. By the time you reach home you realise the taxiwallah has ripped you off and your sleep is out of the window. Next all the stories and reunions from Nana to long lost neighbours. Where is the time to sleep?
