Assuming you're taking a combination pill (not the mini-pill), you are theoretically covered right away IF you started the pack within a few days of your period starting. If you start mid-cycle, you probably aren't 100% for at least a week. Ditto for the mini-pill

That said, most family planning organizations do suggest that you give it at least a week before leaving off condoms or whatever b.c. you were using previously. Just in case you have a bad reaction and have to stop taking them or something else goes awry. Rather safe than sorry, you know?

if it's the pill, you should use a condom for the first week that you are taking it during your first pack. after that, if you take it properly (same exact time every day) you are considered to be protected from pregnancy. i forget what it was for the shot, but i'm pretty sure it was the same. your provider should have told you this when they gave you the birth control. the rule of thumb is, if you're in doubt, use a bac up method, as well as your birth control.

No! it is not effective immediately. I have a child now because i thought that! Wait at least a week. Read the insert that came with it and it will tell you. If you do not have it call the pharmacy they can tell you.

i grow to be placed on Trivora and grow to be informed to attend 7 days. If youre planning on having sex without condoms i'd wait between a week or 2 weeks..thats what the female at planned Parenthood informed me. besides the undeniable fact that it might properly be diverse on your case considering youre on a diverse variety than me.

No. You have to let it get into your system. Usually from 2 to 4 weeks. You physician will tell you depending on the strength of the pills.

i would ask your doctor first, everyone reacts to prescription differently. I would think after you have taken your first pack or maybe the first week, but im not a dr.

I would assume it is NOT effective for the first month, just to be safe (i.e., use a condom!).
