Ok...
El Tepayac (Boyle Heights on Evergreen) Tons of great Food little money if you are seriously staving try one of the burritos if you dare they're MONSTERS.

Gardens of Taxco (West Hollywood) Cool place no menus that's right no menus, the waiters are the best and so is the food check it out!

If you are craving Tacos and Burritos try El Azteca in Maywood they make the best Burritos/Tacos of Carne Al Pastor or Asada and they are open very late if you have the munchies after a night out.

My last favorite would have to be La Serenata de Garibaldi in East LA this place is more of a special date, Mexican food is generally NOT considered a Cuisine and it hasnt gained that stauts... Yet... this place tries to change that with great food and great food presentation and it's romance.

I love Mexican food and I have tried almost every Mexican restaurant in the great Los Angeles region and by far the best Mexican restuarant is La Huesteca in Lynwood. El Cholo and El Coyote are fun for the margies and the laughs but for the best tasting food you must go to La Huesteca.

Some of the restaurants you've listed are great...But the absolutely best Mexican that I've had is in Long Beach, at a little family owned restaurant called Enriques. They have a pork shank special that they start cooking at 5 am and it is so tender by dinnertime that it falls off the bone. All of their menu items are fresh and taste very homemade, not mass produced like mainstream restaurants out there.

Check it out, but be prepared to wait. They don't accept reservations and it gets really crowded. The food is truly worth the wait, though.

You list the biggies. I've also been surprisingly pleased with Marisol at the end of the Santa Monica pier. My favorite spots are dives though -- Mariscos Guillen on the west side of Lincoln Blvd in Santa Monica just north of Venice. Not a restaurant as much as a shack and you have to take out or eat on makeshift tables. Great for shrimp burritos and ceviche. Near by are sit-down restaurants on Rose and Lincoln: Casablanca which brilliantly kitchey while oddly fancy, and La Cabana with tasty home made tortillas. And my latest fave burrito joint is TacoMiendo ( a play-on-words for Esta Comiendo, he's eating.) with a couple of locations including on Pico and Gateway.

Try Marix in West Hollywood. It's always very busy, but I love their food. Plus, I always see celebrities there!

Another fave is Mexicali in Studio City (right off of Laurel Canyon and Ventura). It's really good and on Monday nights it's 30% off all food. Total bargain.

Last but certainly not least is Tia Juana's on Olympic in West L.A. DELICIOUS!!!! Perfect homemade corn and flour tortillas made right at the door.

Good luck!
