Song is called "The Weight" and is by a band called, well, "The Band". Their lead singer and primary songwriter Robbie Robertson passed away last year.

The song, The Weight, was featured in a 1972 movie starring Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper called "Easy Rider" and sang by a group called "The Band." The group backed up Bob Dylan on stage when Dylan toured. The reason Dylan hired them was because The Band and Dylan both lived in Woodstock, NY at the time and Dylan liked the group's sound. Other known songs by The Band are "Up on Cripple Creak" and "The Night they Drove Dixie Down." It was one of the few groups of its time where the dummer, Levon Helm, did most of the singing.

Great song .... "Take a load off Annie" is a line from the song "The Weight" by the group "The Band". It was probably closer to late 60's than middle 70's. You must have good taste in music.

Robbie Robertson is not dead. Nor was he the Lead Singer. That would be Levon Helm. Who, by the way, is also not dead.
