I would tend to doubt it. The Subaru WRX can be had with an automatic, but not the STi. The Mazda 6 can be had with an automatic, but not the Mazdaspeed 6. My guess is that Mitsubishi won't be the first. If they do end up putting an automatic, it will probably be a semi-automatic with paddle shifters, in keeping with the boy-racer feel. That's just my two cents.

Yes, to appeal to a broader range of customers, the Evo X is planned to come with an optional automatic trans (with paddle shifters). It is supposed to still have the standard 6 speed. Keep in mind, however, that this is the prototype. The actual X design hasn't yet been completed, but will most likely be the same as the prototype.

The EVO X is to be equipped with a DSG-type transmission. It is similar to VWs DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox). It's also going to be available with a traditional 6-speed box.

I'd buy the DSG-type transmission over the traditional trans. With the technology nowadays, the bias of performance towards manuals are nil.

A auto on a Evo, that would be like putting a atari joystick on a stealth fighter plane. If you are going to buy an evo but you want a auto, then dont buy it. Go get a Kia LOL Autos suck!!!
