Well the decision is up to you.
I open a scrap metal company in NYC.
As of now, if you strip that copper wires and it is bare bright, which means not plated, and no plastic or other debris, it'll be around $1.90 to $2.10. However if you don't strip it and the wire is 2 inch thick (i'm guessing it's a 1000mcm and not plated), the price would be around$1.10 to $1.30. Price is based on quality and quantity. Hope that help you.
One more thing. Here is a TIP!
If you call up to any scrap yard, and they gave you a highest price in the city, don't be too happy about it yet. I know other places that do that and then rip you off on the scale. Best if you weight the material at home first.

Yes it is definatley worth your time. Although I dont think your taking it to the right place. I work at a recycling company and we pay $1.35 for #2 Insulated copper wire. Your wire however is Romex which pays almost $2 a pound. Alot of scrap yards can be rather shady so make sure you can see the scale weights when you take your wire in. Im not sure of your scrap yards policies but you should also ask for dealer prices. What that means is that you should get around $2.30 for the insulated or around $3.80 for the bare copper. My company will usually give dealer prices on weights over 100lbs or for a established company. Just make sure you take into account that almost half the weight will be in the insulation. 100 lbs. insulated wire for $105 or $175 for 50 lbs. of bare bright copper.

It depends on how much of it you have. Class 1 copper brings a few cwnts more per pound tha Class 2 (insulated) but if you have a lot of it, the labor to srip it is not worth the price difference.
It sounds like you have some 800KCM stuff. If you lived here, the scrap yard would want a good explanation of how you got it before they would take it. The price of copper has brough out the crooks in bunches here. They actually steal the phone cables between poles! They'll hook a truck up to the underground lighting system cables in shopping center parking lots and yank out what they can!
Unbelievable.

call the scrap yard you would sell it at and ask them their price for clean copper and for insulated copper. You'll probably find that it is worth the effort if you have enough to bother with in the first place. Where'd you get two inch thick wire? What's the length?

& the answer is.......maybe.
Problem is ,scrapyards are no longer able to burn the insulation (PVC & rubber) from copper cable( legally?).
They sometimes pay indigents a few cents to do it by hand.
Fmr.job used to put out a lot of scrap cable & gave it to scrappers to reduce weight.
These guys from NY & CT said they had to do it by hand.
If you have the time & you have a lot of it you could make a few bucks on clean copper if you DIY.
Scrap metal prices , per pound, fluctuate , so it pays to ask around.
