Halo (1 not 2), Riddick, Timesplitters, Deus Ex, Half life 2, really liked Mace Griffin too. The Marathon Trillogy (old Mac game - precursor to Halo - which you can download and play legally for free - now a PC port too).
If you like the Duke there was a VERY old game called "Shadow Warrior" which was quite similar in humour - may be lurking around an abandonware site somwhere.

Depends on what you want.
For online play i would definitely reccommend Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 on PC. Brilliant games which promote teamplay and have some great maps.
Also Counterstrike is a good online game, but not as in-depth as Battlefield.
On consoles i would suggest the Halo games over most others as console FPS's aren't up to the standard of PC ones so there aren't that many great ones. But one i do prefer to Halo, is Rainbow Six Vegas on the Xbox 360. It looks great, It's intense and uses the cover feature of Gears of Waar. The online is also very good.
Other decent ones are, Timesplitters, Killzone and Battlefield Modern Combat

If you are looking for the BEST First person shooter and not the "Most graphically enhanced, gimmick filled FPS" then i suggest you get into Doom (not Doom 3, the classic doom).
It has really good online play, its a classic so there is no pressure on your pc so you get some extreme raw gameplay.
This isnt a joke..

Best FPS of all time, Goldeneye.
Counter Strike, Half-Life, and Unreal Tournament were all favorites as well.

I like the Half-Life and Counter-Strike series. I hear SWAT 4 is decent too.
