It's not fun, not in the least.
Mood swing are what you can expect, and it litterally is at the drop of a dime.
One moment he will be content,
and BAM the next her will be so pesomistic, at points you are going to want to give up,
BUT DON'T, the more you are there for him, the better chances he will have of climibing out of that well,
Justremember, HE has to do the climbing. You just have to extend your hand.

It's different for everyone, but I can tell you a bit of what it was like for me. For me my emotions were almost always dulled, with short spurts of sensory overload when all of my emotions were heightened to the point it would overwhelm me. I was paranoid when I went out in social situations that people could see what was wrong with me and were judging me. I was physically drained all of the time, I would sleep constantly and have trouble waking up in the morning. My brain was constantly overactive, analyzing and obsessing over things to the point that I would shut down and not want to leave my room. It's good that you're Dad is aware of what he is going through and has shared it with your family. If he's being treated talk his doctor about the symptoms of depression, or look it up at www.webmd.com or www.wikipedia.org.

It doesn't seem to matter what you do you just don't feel good about anything. I agree with yahoo,(who answered above me) if you really want to know in detail about talk to health care provider.

Well, I actually have a poem about depression:
Depression sends us into a dark place.
One where we cannot see the light.
We are blind from the world.
Depression sends us into a closed in place.
We are deaf from the outside.
Loving words are not said.
Hatefull ones repeat in our minds.
Depression sends us far away.
Rarely do we come back.
Give your dad lots of love. And just keep giving him the support,
You'll see, it does help.
Blessed be

Really sad, tired. Don't want to do things anymore, not the things you use to. You may cry sometimes, feel like crying. Don't want to communicate or go out. You fell lonely and unhappy. Just really, really down.I hope this helps so you could probably help your dad. Good luck.

It is not fun, and everyone deals with it differently. I slept constantly, never wanting to get up, didn't want to do anything but sleep. You become very sad, and begin not to care about things, that you really cared for before. Even though you wish you did.. for some reason you just don't.

depression is like being stuck in a horror movie that wont end. there are some parts of the movie that just drag one, trying to lead you to the suspense, then there are times your are just confused, times where you are terrified, and times when you just want to throw the horrible horror film in the lake. depression hurts and has really bad lighting

It really depends how severe his depression is. I suffer with a mental illness called Bipolar and it is horrible. It changes your way of thinking and sometimes you are out of control.
