Whats the best type of advertising?

I've recently started in business and would like to know the best type of advertising as since January business has dropped a little. Can you help

Honestly, you will get the highest response from marketing not advertising. Focus more on filling your pipeline by marketing yourself. Talking with people, personally handing out your business cards, etc. Get people to talk about you. It's MUCH less expensive. Advertising is necessary as well, but don't rely on advertising to 'bring in' all of your business. You will go broke very quickly that way. Use advertising as a tool only to follow up your marketing efforts.

Always remember this: YOU are your product. How many times have you avoided a store because of a rude salesperson? I can think of plenty. I have purposely driven to another store out of my way just to avoid crappy service. Sometimes, I even paid MORE for the same product. OK then - you see what I mean. Sell YOU - talk with people, really get to know them, help them. Find out what their needs are. That my friend is the best way to get new business. Any amateur can blow a bunch of cash on advertising, right? Be a PRO and love on your target market! :-)

I just started a business and word of mouth is the best advertisment i can get and it works. I also put out 5000 post cards to get started and now the rest is up to me doing a great job.

It certainly will depend on what business u have started. Anyway i think web can help u a lot & ofcourse if you are trying your best & can make people happy by that you may not need a better advertising than that.

Depends on the type of business ! and also how much money you have....

Although anything that may get you in the local press for free is a good start. Think of some stunts you may be able to pull.

Guerilla tactics, Get Stickers printed and slap up around town, you know on the backs of Police cars Buses etc.

Depends on the type of business. Are you looking for business to business sales, or business to consumer. The web is always an effective mean, but can take a long long time to start seeing results. Try posting your business on places like http://www.craigslist.org and http://www.whyabe.com , both are free. Get yourself a website, and try to get it into the search engines. If you offer services to consumers, try coupon mailers for your area.

Most business suffers a downturn in jan,feb, etc after xmas rush and people saving pennies or paying debt off, if business is okay rest of year you must be doing something right!, local papers are best if business is in local area - a small regular ad in paper will keep your name in people's minds. I believe smaller but regular ads work best.

Word of mouth is the best b/c it is free and often comes from people who are trusted by those doing the refering.
