I'm going to be the next tight end in line for varisty football next year. Any suggestions on what area of the body I should work on the most to ensure I'm ready for football season?

There is no ONE part. You need great overall strength and endurance.

Definitely work on your legs....Strength and Speed. You need to be able to hold your own against a D-lineman or a L-backer and you need to be able, at least, to run with the L-backers. Hamstrings are often overlooked and necessary if you want speed. But make sure to work the quads and hams evenly to avoid injury from one being stronger than the other.

You will also need the upper body strength, again to hold your own with the lineman and backers and to ensure that you can hold on to the ball when being hit.

Good luck!!!

I don't know any specific workouts off hand; however, YouTube has over 26,000 result when I typed in football workout. I'm sure there is some great information (and some junk). You are young though, so don't lift the heavy stuff until you're at least 15 or 16.

Lower body focus with a lot of shoulder and core work. As a tight end the key is EXPLOSION off the line. (see Shannon Sharpe!!) You will need strong legs to get off the line and block and then quickly get into your route. Shoulders and core come in for blocking and endurance. Tight ends tend to get covered by Linebackers and DE's.....Some harder hits from bigger guys. Good luck!!

Depending on how you want to be used, do some wind sprints, squats, deads, and bench. You'll need a strong upper body for blocking and strong legs to carry the ball after you catch it.
