Why are there fools in the world who continue to shell out cash to psychics?

Why do people continue to pay psychics to "read the future", talk to the dead, find missing persons, etc? Are these people just incredibly weak minded and so unhappy with their own lives that they seek a security blanket? Sylvia Brown, Rosemary Altea, and John Edwards have all been debunked time and again. In fact, Penn and Teller caught Rosemary Altea's entire fraudulent system on videotape, exposing her as a complete fraud yet people continue to pay her! Why are large portions of the population so susceptible to this type of fraud? If psychics are "professionals" as they claim and just the way that doctors and lawyers are "professionals", should pyschics not be required to take a standardized test of their pyschic ability as administered by a neutral, independant authority in order to be licensed like any other professional?

I have to agree that there are numerous frauds out there that do take advantage of people and it is very sad.
On the other hand, there are genuine psychics out there, who do not take advantage, most do not charge. EVERYONE has this ability, its just a matter of tapping into it and really listening to ourselves.
People who claim to be psycic....such as whom you named, charge an INSANE amount of money for their readings, this right there is a spot on sign of a scam. A true psychics gifts are most often at the disposal of those who TRULY need guidance.
The sad part is that there are actually people out there who become addicted to readings, and find it nessessary in there lives on a regulare basis to have a reading done which becomes damaging. Again a tell tale sign is that of a "psychic" who ALLOWS this to happen could be fraudulent.
