I had a shipment get delivered to a previous address and tried to stop by (nobody was home) but i seen what looked like the box my stuff would have come in, empty on the side of the house. is it legal for them to have opened the box? it was shipped through fed ex no signature required. and further yet is it legal for them to keep merchandise i paid for. thanks for all help

well, found out is was ups not fed ex. the old address had mistakenly popped up through pay pal that is how it was mis-shipped. so I issued a call tag for the package and hopefully they will fork it over. thanks for all help.

Hi Sissy I have a sissy to.. call FEDEX tell them that you found the box riped open on your yard .. they have shipping insurance for that...

Of course it isn't legal for someone else to open your mail and then keep your stuff. That is theft. You will need to contact FedEx and find out when it was delivered, etc but it will be difficult to prove.

Why would you have a package sent to an old address though? That is just asking for trouble as they aren't required to forward or save your package. They could have just tossed it out.

No and no but try and prove it...all you can do is tell them you never received your merchandise...which is the truth...it is up to them to pursue the address that they had on record that they delivered it to...but I would think that they will stand behind it and reship it to you...Did you have the delivery insured? Too bad you wasn't able to get your hands on the box....

It is a federal offense to tamper with mail. I would recommend filing a police report (you can either do that at the police department, or call 911 and tell them it is not an emergency and they will send an officer to you) and possibly disputing the charge on your credit card.
