We already have a mantle, but are looking for a direct rear vent natural gas firebox. Stores in the area have hugely inflated prices and I was looking for an online distributor. Any advice?

We've got a fireplace by Superior (http://www.superiorfireplaces.com/) in our mountain cabin. Checking their distributors, I found:

Most manufacturers of Direct Vent Fireplaces and Inserts will only sell to certified dealers. You may think the dealers have inflated prices, however their markup is normally not that high.
Installation should only be done by technicians certified to work iwth natural gas and or propane. Improper installation can be deadly due to carbon monoxide issues.
I do not know where you live, but in the midwest prices can range from $2400--$3400. depending on size. That price range includes fireplace, venting materials and labor.
Good luck
