I was wondering...?

... Is there a good site that outlines the different periods and genres of American literature? I was thinking more specifically of the genre that Tolkien and C. S. Lewis wrote in, but I would like to know of a good site for an overview of American lit. Thanks a bunch!

All through college, up through my master's, I've been reading Norton Anthologies of Literature. They have a web site designed for instructors, really, but very accessible. Plus, used book stores always have inexpensive copies. Norton usually includes short articles about the historical era that each piece falls into, and then usually copies of the complete works in chronological order.
