my grill has 4 cast iron grilling surfaces and every time i cook on it a couple days later its rusting. i seasoned them (cooking them at 400 degrees and put oil on them every 20 minutes for so long and its not doinig anything. please help

Next time you grill, after the grill cools down, spray PAM liberally over the whole grill (both top and bottom). See if that works.

What may be happening is the oil you use is burning off, while the grill is hot, so wait until it cools off before treating it with oil.

The type of cast that is normally used for grills is pretty porous, and it is virtually impossible to prevent rust. "Seasoning" grills just doesn't work, in my opinion. I keep a drill motor with a cup wire brush handy, and just run the wire brush over the grills before I fire it up!

After each use I apply a thin coat of peanut oil or canola then place a pan of absorbent inside the grille. This keeps it to a minimum.

Scrape them with a wire brush after each use, then, put the cover down & put your barbecue cover on, but make sure the grate is dry before covering it up.

you can not stop them from rusting replace them with ceramic coated grates they won't rust and are easy to clean.
