You can keep the flame going for a while with calls and emails, but you'll need to re-unite every once in a while. If you really want to make it last for more than a year or two one of the two will have to consider relocating... Sad but true.
Mexican Proverb:
"amor de lejos, felices los cuatro" (love from far afar = all 4 of you will be happy), This is quite true as you can usually not expect. or offer, fidelity indefinately when separated...

When I lived in Monterrey, I dated a girl from Arkansas. It worked for a bit, but it was more the excitement than anything else... Despite all the calls, emails, chat, etc., we didn't really know each other.
I think for your case, it depends on how often you see each other, and how often you talk on the phone or chat. How far or close you live in Texas is not as important as how often you come down to see her, or vice versa.

it all depends on the two of you for example my husband and i were to gether for four years and he lives in monterrey mexico . then we got married he still lives there and i live in texas it requires alot of work on by both people and lots of trust and yes imagination to be able to both be at the same place at the same time . when i go to mexico to see him its like we were still dating so the distance only makes us love each other a little more

Depends... if there is a plan to re-unite at some point... maybe.
If not, then no.
