I'm sure he was afraid just like anyone would be.

He just didn't give his killers the satisfaction of knowing it.

No one knows what Saddam Hussein felt and taught at that moment. It seems to me that Husein was quite conscious that he projected an image. I don't believe he would not have wanted history to remember him as a coward, so he faced death with as much dignity as he could.
Maybe he had come to terms with the idea of his own death. That's just another possibility. There are many possibility, pick your own. It's probably as good as anyone else's.

Saddam new the end was near, and decided to go out with courage and dignity, to protect his legacy! Apparently it worked, because he is popular in death, more so than bin Laden will be, because bin Laden has decided to spend his twilight years, hiding in a cave or a rat hole!

Bin Laden reminds me of the ballad recited by Douglas MacArthur in his farewell speech to the West Point Cadets, many years ago. It went, "Old soldiers never die, they just fade away!"

I don't think Saddam believed they were really going to do it. He had a look on his face like he had just awoke from a deep sleep, and wasn't completely awake yet. A look of almost disbelief.

He looked pretty afraid to me. Your supposition is probably false. I think he crapped his pants same as the next guy, but either way, he's gone and received in Hell just like Ouday and Qusay......(P*$$ be upon them). Imagine all the Kurds, Kuwaitis, and Shia he hanged and tortured. I think hanging was too good for him.

He was afraid, but he accepted his fate. He spit on his enemies with his last breath. Regardless his faults, he died a man. With that said...I'm still glad he's dead.

He probably thought there were 72 virgins awaiting him on the other side.

Only he knows. My view is that he was as scared as the next person on the gallows.

Satan had already promised him a place of power at his side in hell. He would be free to torture and kill again.
