Well, according to the book "Helter Skelter" written by Vincent Bugliosi, the prosecutor in the La Bianca/Tate killings,
Charles Manson ordered his followers to commit those killings because he believed Helter skelter (In his mind the revolution where the black man will over power the white man)
was close at hand,
and he wanted to jump start the revolution by killing the "Pigs" (The establishment, in this case people of high importance or high regard) and frame the black man,
because in his mind that would cause the white people to go into the ghettos and just start killing blacks.
He was a sick and twisted man, Obviously unstable, and he believed, once the black man had come into power he wouldn't know what to do and hand over his power to Manson and his "family" who had planned to hide in a utopia underneath the desert.
and as shocking as it is, when the actual Tate/la Bianca murders were committed not one of the murderers were on any drugs at the time, LSD was only used so Charlie could control his family members to begin with, many of the killers hadn't taken LSD for weeks before the murders.

It relatively boils right down to the reality that Manson, and Tex Watson, the two knew the layouts of the two the Tate and LaBianca residences(Manson went to Sharon Tate's domicile as quickly as, searching for somebody else yet grow to learn that they moved and he left. The family individuals would party at a house that grow to be on the threshold of the LaBianca place of living). The crimes have been meant to ask your self human beings, they did no longer even understand that they had killed Sharon Tate or any of the different sufferers till day after today, it relatively would desire to've been everyone. there have been theories that it grow to be through previous resident(s) (Candice Bergen and Terry Melcher), yet in all, i certainly think of it grow to be purely undesirable success for everyone to have been there that evening.

I think both the answers above me are correct. But, unfortunately,
the psycho part mixed with a combination of drugs probably
has the most to do with it. The night after the killings, they
went to the next house & killed the couple living there.
I think their name was LaBianco.

I heard that they thought someone else lived in the house. Charlie wanted to kill a record producer (I think for the Beach Boys) who he had wanted to record his music but would not. The producer used to live in the house.

Manson manipulated everyone in order for himself to feel powerful. He had a cult following which was "high" on acid and everything else. They followed his orders, his brainwashing.
