I got in my car today and put on a tape primarily to test the tape deck to see if it works. But I enjoyed it so much more than I was expecting, I hadn't heard it for ages and it was practically the theme tune to the summer I spent in america.
What song/ album reminds you of a particular occasion?

Pop program in the air...tube radio by Telefunken and reel-type tape recorder by Loewe Opta...a young boy, sitting and waiting at a book shelf, something like 1967...and then Beach Boys: "Good Vibrations"!

"Good Vibrations" is sharing the very first place in my musical memories, joined by the great "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin....

The most beautiful rock song for me: "Ferry Across the Mersey" by Gerry and The Pacemakers, from the pre-Beatles era...it took over 30 years before I had a trip to Liverpool and really saw the Ferry!

I cannot help remembering all the years of my youth when listening bands like The Byrds, The Band, The Cream, Colosseum....music is a real time machine!

Whenever I listen to "Dirty Little Secret" by the All American Rejects I am reminded of a ski trip I went on with my family and my cousins family out in Colorado. My sister had just downloaded it, and even though I don't like it that much, we all listened to it so many times! The song Freebird brings back sad, depressing, but important times. Last year I was going through some hard times and I always would listen to that song and start crying for some reason. :( I'm not gonna go into it because it's kind of personal but yeah.

Whenever I'm having bad days, thinking that the human kind is just virus, or spots on the Earth, just enforce to remind myself:

People LOVE music, can pay a high price or do lot of things just to listen it (like standing in a queue or in a middle of a crowd or travel thousand miles) or even argue about that question: Armstrong's What a wonderful world is a great song or something too much of...
Whatever is the truth this song reminds me of a heated debate from the past about the same question... :)

A million love songs by Take That remind me of the last dance I had with my first "proper" boyfriend. He had already told me a couple of weeks before that we were finished, then one night in a club he happened to be there (we shared the same friends) and just after the song started took my hand and we held on to each other so tight. It was understood that we were saying goodbye. Straight after the song he left, without a word. Although it was a tough time back then, whenever I here the song I fondly remember the time I had with him.

Every time I hear Craig David I am walking away, I feel nostalgia about waking with someone I loved, when i listen Mojo Lady, remember 2000 summer in Cyprus and disco club Basement, Fantom of the opera, definitely again brings me back to the mood of thinking of the past. Mostly I feel touched by sad music, as pop-sweet tune is not squeezing my heart so much.
memory for music, is like remembering scent and perfume, you cant keep it as a material paraphernalia, but it brings you back with Strong power of emotional relation.

PS In Russia we say " you cant throw out words from the song", it is a wording for "varnished tale can't be round"
Life is a big song with so many words. Sometimes sad? sometimes funny or happy. But let the music play!

Radiohead - The Bends reminds me of the really moving trip I took to see the war fields in Belgium and Northern France. I travelled with some kids and I bought the CD when we were away. I will always link the songs to a turning point in my life. Funny thing? I am not exactly the greatest Radiohead fan in the world.

NORTHERN EXPOSURE.......It's a compilation of atmospheric drum n base, ambience and funky house.

My best friend taped it for me about six years ago, and it was one of those albums that you play over and over. We're no longer friends and I still think of her all the time and miss her terribly, but have not listened to it for so long....until my son downloaded one of the tracks!!!! Then the memories and happy times wash over me¦o(

The Stereophonics, Red hot Chillies have happy memories for me. Creep was the very first Radiohead song that I fell in love with...so Pablo Honey, The bends then later OK computer hold happy memories for me, but the ultimate song will always be....

INSOMNIA by FAITHLESS - the adrenalin still rushes through my body when I hear the tick tick tick "it's two o'clock in the morning......I cant's get no sleep' mmmmmmmm maybe I am too old to go clubbing at 35!? {{{{sigh}}}}

white shader of pale.
I hate it, it always brings back memories of having to chuck an innocent boyfriend when I didn't want him any more. We were in a youth club and this was playing when I said it was finished. I wa sso guilty. How stupid, this song has haunted me for decades!!

I'm very sure he has got over it and I am long long forgotten, pity I can't do the same with the song. Funny thing is I can't remember the boy, just this horrible song!! Ugh!!

On a much lighter note......anything by a Dominican group called Aventura, their songs always remind me of holidays in the Dominican Republic......sheer bliss!!
