All pets require maintanance - a clean environment, food, fresh water, vet visits etc.
There really is no low maintanance pet.
Why don't you offer to do all the work with cleaning and feeding, and then it wont be a lot of work for your dad

fish and turtles can be pretty high maintenance because you have to clean out they're tank all the time. It might not seem that hard, but trust me it takes a long time I have 6 fish and 2 turtles. It's not that easy. And you have to feed them every day.
I think land hermit crabs are pretty low maintenance. All you have to do is get a hermit crab sponge for them to drink out of and soak it with water every time it gets dry. And put a little bit of food in their bowl.you don't have to give them food every day, just when there's no more in their bowl. other than that you really don't have to do anything but clean put in new sand for them every once and a while.
but there is some much needed supplies, like a humidity gauge and a spray bottle so you can make sure they have enough humidity. just spray some water in if there's not enough. And of course food and a sponge and bowls. A hiding place and shells to switch into are needed too.

Well bunnies and chincillas are higher maintainence than a hamster... You could try:
A fish
A turtle
A hamster
A gerbil
A fancy mouse
A rat
A Guinea Pig or A Skinny Pig

A leopard gecko would be a great pet that fits all the above requirements. They are extremely low maintenance, sociable and you can purchase a gecko plus supplies for around 220$. Upkeep is around 2 dollars a week for meal worms or crickets, and the sand in the aquarium should be changed every 6 months.

Hamsters are high maintenance because they STINK if you don't clean their cage. A GERBIL is the best pet. They don't stink up their cage because they're a desert mouse. They are rabbit colour and have fur on their tail, so they don't look like a mouse.
They love chewing used up toilet paper rolls and making a nest.
Our kids had some for a long time, and they were NO trouble at all. Come on Dad, a gerbil is great!

I don't know how you'll feel about this but.... Tarantulas are very low maintenance. Feed them at least once a month and keep there tank at a good humidity. you can hold them and there very docile. Spiders not your thing, many snakes have the same requirements, maybe a hardy lizard? or if your around everyday try a really cool fish or frog tank. Hope this helps!!!

Well a fish is low maintenance but you really can't play with a fish. I am not sure of any other pets that are low maintenance.

Get a fish. They need considerable less maintenace than a hamster. If you want something more cuddly consider a mouse. They are like hamsters but l think they are less maintenace. I had one myself and you really only need to pay for the food and bedding since u should already have the hamster cage ready to use. Mice are fun. But beware, they are small and incredibly easy to lose.
Whatever you choose, good luck and happy pet hunting :)

it depends on what you like. corn snakes are low maintainence but most people don't like snakes. if you like cute and cuddly creatures then you could get a guinea pig. i have 3 guinea pigs and they are lovely girls and are 4 and 3 years old. i might be getting a snake as well. i can't say what you should choose but you could make a list of pets to consider and then research on each one to see which one might be the best to choose. i hope this helped.
