Miles do matter, and so does maintenance. Mileage matters because there is wear associated with the use of a vehicle. However, 100,000 miles is no longer the 'end of life' of a vehicle as it once was.

There are things you will bump into, like getting a bank to finance anything with over 80,000, and a general bias against 100k miles.

It depends on what "taken care of" means. If it means that the van has been serviced regularly (oil, filter, and chassis lube every 3000-5000 miles) and all the other necessary maintenance has been done, then 100K miles may be fine if the driver wasn't a speed demon or a beater.

One good indicator of the overall condition of a vehicle is to to look at it's physical condition. It isn't always the definitive indicator, but if the thing looks pretty good inside and out and runs well with no exhaust smoke, then it may be a young 100K. If the interior is a mess and the body is full of dents and dings and it puffs any smoke, I'd keep looking.

I've had vehicles go well over 150K miles and still run as well then as they did new, and all I did was change the oil regularly and take care of the other regular maintenance.

Actually, that is very true. If even do a casual search on-line for cars for sale, such as www.autotrader.com, you will find lots of cars with well over 100,000 or even 200,00 miles that have been properly maintained and continue to run in near new condition. And if you are buying car that was made in the last ten years or so, 100,000 miles is nothing if it is truly well-maintained.

Being a young guy, I have personally purchased several used cars over the years with mileage well over 100,000 and they run good because they were well-kept by the previous owners.

And that is the essential thing; whether a car be high mileage or low, what you need to look for is whether the car was driven too hard and if the maintenance is not up to date. Aside from that, and it goes without saying, things will need to be replaced from time to time simply because a used car is old.

If you are still skeptical, please visit a website where people leave reviews for their cars, such as edmunds.com. Even autotrader has some reviews by its own staff for many of the used car models listed.

Any more, 100,000 miles is a good break-in. I have put over 200,000 miles on my past three automobiles. I currently have 100,000 plus on both my family vehicles. The secret is to maintain and keep things repaired. Changing the oil and filter regularly is one of the key elements. After about 5 years, change belts and hoses, and other rubber items.

look my friends have cars with
700,000 miles,400,000 miles

200,000 miles,

if the oil has been changed at least twice a year minimum
and everything else has been seen to , on a regular basis
there should not be a problem.

one of my friends mothers drove a mazda 626 till it had
987,000 miles on it,

if you take proper care, and it doesn;t rust out
if should last a long time.

The more you drive the more parts wear down, the less you drive the less you wear down. Besides as soon as you you hit 100k miles cars value DROPS DOWN A LOT. Parts don't last forever.

If the van has been well cared for ie: oil changes, repair documentation, and no accidents with good body no repaint it should last another 100,000

thats true.what does matter,is how you keep the car up,plus that just means the car has been driven that far.hell my neighbor has a 1988 olds and its got almost 200,000 miles on it and hes been to ga.,fla, alabama and he lives here in pa.and his still runs just as good as a car with 30,000 miles on it.so its just on how you keep it up.
