I just started playing the drums about two months ago, and one thing I really want to get good at is playing the 16th note on my hi hat. Can anyone tell me a drumming drill or drumming exercise that can teach me control and accuracy on my stick to play the 16th note?

Practice,practice,practice... I know pretty obvious right? One thing that can help you with your control and accuracy is an inexpensive "drum pad"..its basically a piece of wood with rubber on the top.Excellent practice tool for what you're looking to accomplish..you'll get it,hang in there and keep at it!!

My advice would be to first get good at playing 16th notes period. Getting a metronome and practicing to that is really useful because the subdivisions will be exact. If you're a bit out of time, you'll know, believe me!

Also there's a couple of different ways of playing 16ths on the hi-hat. One is just with the right hand (assuming you're right handed), the other is to alternate the sticking ie - R L R L etc. I prefer the latter, it makes it less tiring on your hands and gives you freedom to do more.

But concentrate on your 16ths, because they are so useful in many different situations, including hi-hats.

Rock on

I'm only a guitar player but I find that Guitar Center has A LOT of good books on Drumming. Go online to either www.guitarcenter.com OR www.musiciansfriend.com They have the same stuff for the same prices. It's just at Musicians Friend, they don't have stores you can go to to pick it up, you have to order it online. Guitar Center- you can order online or go to their store.
