Well i'm about to be 8 months pregnant this weekend and I have a question about traveling... See my boyfriend's family from mexico is planning a baby shower over there for me on March the 17th... His family from here in houston are wanting to leave on Friday, March the 16th and it's a 6-8 hour drive over there, but were just going for the weekend we'll be back on Sunday. Question is do you think I should go? Some people would tell me no cuz you never know if all of a sudden I would go in labor and then the horrible part would be to have my first baby in Mexico but others think that it will be okay and that nothing will happen. So I really don't know what to do.....

I would say no. If you're 8 months pregnant now, by then you'll be close to your due date.

If I'm reading this right you are just getting to be 8 months and in 3 weeks is the shower. So you will be either at or near term (a term baby is born between 38 and 42 weeks). I would really suggest you work with your doctor before going. If you are not showing any readiness signs (dilation, thinning of the cervix) it might be OK, but how prepared are you to have a baby in Mexico? Babies come when they want, not when it's convenient for us. If you were traveling in the US I'd say go for it, and I did, but we mapped out hospitals where ever we went "just in case". Being in Mexico you either should, if possible, research the hospitals there. Or have the shower earlier or after the baby is born.

Have you had any other children? Were they early, late or near on time? Are you younger? Younger mothers (under 20 I think) are more likely to be a bit early. These are a couple of things to think on as well.

Not an easy choice. Take care and good luck!

March 17... ? Isn't that basically your due date if you are 8 months now.... ? I wouldn't take that risk! you could go into labor before you even leave to go to mexico. I WOULD NOT DO IT. Ask your doctor... most doctors don't want their patients leaving town much less leaving the country in the last month.

Maybe you can plan a trip for after the baby is born. that way they can have a chance to see the baby and still give you the gifts and things.

Usually people say to try not to travel in the third trimester because of the risk of going into labor. Also, it's not a good idea to be sitting for 6-7 hours. However, if you feel comfortable driving that far, taking breaks every 2 hours or so to walk and keep your ankles from swelling up, and the fact that you'll be back in two days, you would probably be ok. But be very familiar with the warning signs of impending labor and get back as soon as you can!

THe best thing to do is ask you doctor to give you the ok. But if you have no signs of preterm labor and as long as you stop for about 10 min out of every hour to hour and a half to walk and get your blood circulating in your legs you shoud be fine. Sitting for a long time will cause your legs to swell ( more if you already have that)

Check with your doctor, usually they say it is okay before 36 weeks. Just make sure you stop the car and walk around a couple of times and have a list of places you can stop on the drive in case of emergency.

you may trip till you're around 34-36 weeks. i might basically verify you will possibly be soft in the motor vehicle, have snacks, and understand of each and every of the rest stops with bogs that are obtainable lol.

Go and have fun. You'll be fine. You have no symptoms of going into labour any time soon I'm sure so go and enjoy it. :D
